We provide our services for free is because we deeply believe that information should be exchanged freely on the internet. We promise to retain the site free of charge in the future as well.

Why 8LIST?
Compared with other sites, 8LIST is:

- More effective — 8LIST set no restriction to the posters and the searchers. The searchers and posters are free to communicate and transact directly.

How to place a classified (post) and manage (activate, withhold, update, delete) my posts?
You can post your advertisement by filling the one-page-form for each sub-category and submitting it. At 8LIST, you can post either anonymously or with an account. Yet, we recommend you post with an account. With an account, you can post with higher credit, better management, and without activation. It is free as well.
For anonymous user, once submitted, the server will send you an email requesting activation. Once activated following the instruction in the e-mail, the post will be available for search and view. This e-mail also contains a link of post management (activate, withhold, update, delete) . You can carry out all of the management operations following this link. So please keep this e-mail until the post is expired or deleted.
For registered user, the post will be available for search and view immediately after the one-page-form was submitted. For each section, there is a "My Posts" page. You can manage (activate, withhold, update, delete) all of your posts in the section using this page.

How to activate my account or post?
To activate, you only need to visit the URL (or web address) we send you in the activation request email. Once you visited that URL, the server will activate your account or post automatically. You do not need to take any further action.
To activate successfully, you need to ensure that the whole URL is in the address bar of your browser. PLEASE NOTE that some email providers may break the URL into multiple lines. In this case, you have to copy the URL into the address bar of your browser line by line. The following are two typical activation URLs.
For account activation:

Why post with an account instead of posting anonymously?
Anonymous post is allowed. But we encourage you to post with an account. With an account, you do not need to activate your post every time and your poster will have a higher credit. Furthermore, you will have a better management of your posts. Click here to create an account. It is free.

How to format my post?
Our posting and display engine won't take HTML code. But the format of the text in the textarea will be kept intact. String begin with http://, https://, ftp://, and www. will be hot linked. String like http://www.***.com/imagename will be embedded as image. The image formats we take are gif, jpg, jpe, jepg, png, tif, tiff, and bmp. Please try to avoid tab when formatting your post, different engine understand tab differently. If you are not sure, you can always preview your post before the submission. The following is an example of a formatted post.

How to add images or pictures to my post?
For the sections of "Personal & Dating", "Sale & Trade", "Apartment", "Real Estate", and "Auto", you can upload up to two images for each post. The format of the images we accept for uploading are jpg, jpeg, gif, png, and wbmp. Large image will be resized and compressed to 350 pixels wide or high by the server.
Yet, for all of the sections, you can always embed images into your post using an images link in the format of http://www.***.com/imagename. To be displayed properly, this image must exists and available for view at http://www.***.com/imagename already. The image formats we accept for embedding are gif, jpg, jpe, jepg, png, tif, tiff, and bmp. Please see the example in the previous question.

How long can the post stay on 8LIST?
The length varies from 1 month to 2 years depending on the sections. You can find this information at each section. If needed, you can keep the post from expiring by renewing the timestamp of your post.

When activating, why I see the error of "the post you requested does not exist, is deleted, or you do not have right to it"?
This error will happen at the following situations:
- The activation url you used is not complete or incorrect
- The post has been deleted already either by you or by 8LIST staff due to improper content.
- You are trying to manage others' post
- You try to activate an anonymous post while you are logged on

Can I repost? How often can I repost?
You can repost the same content. But we strongly encourage you to update your existing post instead of posting a new one. The update will also renew your posting timestamp, which has the same effect as posting a new one. If we found someone abuse the site by posting the same content for a significant amount of times, we may block the IP address and user id.

How the respond message will be sent to me?
In posting, we provide three options for receiving message by e-mail:
- "Show this e-mail". If you select this option, your e-mail address will be shown publicly and the users of 8LIST can send you e-mail directly. We encourage you select this option.
- "Don't show but send message to it". If you select this option, your e-mail address will not be revealed. But the users of 8LIST can send you e-mail messages by a web form at 8LIST.com. There are some limitations for this option. For example, the users can not send you attachments, the e-mails sent to you may end-up in your junk or bulk e-mail folder depending on your e-mail service provider, the e-mail sent to you will not be well formatted, the user may send you message without providing their real e-mail address, etc.
- "Don't show and don't sent message". This option means that your e-mail will not be revealed and the users will not be able to send you message by e-mail. You have to provide other contact methods.

What should I do if I did not receive the e-mail for account or post activation?
If you have submitted your post successfully, but have not received the activation request e-mail, please do the following:
- Check your junk e-mail or bulk e-mail folder especially if you are using an online e-mail provider, such as hotmail or yahoo mail.
- Wait at least 12 hours and recheck your e-mail. Some e-mail providers may experience delays in retrieving e-mails.
- Still not work? If account registration, you can visit "Forget Your Password Page" to request your registration information again. If posting, you can always repost it. Your un-activated old post will be deleted automatically one week later.
- In some rare case, when the spam filtering policies of your e-mail server are extremely tight, the e-mail sent from our server maybe completely blocked by your e-mail server. In this case, our only suggestion is to use e-mail addresses from different providers.

How to unsubscribe?
We do not provide unsubscribe function for now. But you can always kill your account by changing your password to a long unknown string, so that no one can use your account anymore. An account inactive for a very long time will be deleted automatically.

What if my right is infringed by someone's post?
Please contact us immediately at cs@8list.com with the following information.
- Identify the material on the 8LIST site that you claim is infringing.
- The proof that your right was infringed by that post.
- A statement by you declaring under penalty of perjury that the information you claimed is accurate
- Your contact information and your electronic signature

Why results outside my search distance are displayed?
To ensure the best server performance, we used an algorithm that may return around 25% of the results that located between 1 and 1.4 times of your search distance. But we guarantee that all of the results within your search distance will be displayed.

What is credit?
Credit is a score that we assigned to the post indicating how trustworthy the post is. This score was calculated based on the information the user provided, the history of the user, and comments from other members. We try our best to provide an accurate credit number. However, this number is only an indicator generated by the computer system. Like all the other similar systems, this number could be hacked. Please use your own judge when using it. An anonymous post will be given a lowest credit of 1. The highest possible credit is 20.
